Jim Khan is a specialist colorectal cancer surgeon with comprehensive training in general and emergency surgery, and over 25 years of experience since graduating as a doctor. He treats a wide range of disorders affecting the small intestine, colon, and rectum, with considerable expertise in bowel cancer treatment and performing robotic and laparoscopic surgeries. He practices at PGH, Queen Alexandra Hospital (QAH) Portsmouth, and Spire Portsmouth Hospitals.
Prof. Khan graduated in 1996 and specialized in general surgery. He completed his basic surgical training in the West of Scotland, and after obtaining his Master’s degree from Cardiff University, he joined the Wessex surgical rotation for specialist registrar training in colorectal surgery. He gained extensive experience in complex pelvic and rectal cancer surgery while working with Professor Heald at Basingstoke. In 2007, he was awarded a UK National Laparoscopic Fellowship at Colchester, where he trained in advanced laparoscopic pelvic surgery. He was subsequently offered a second traveling clinical fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, USA. Later, he traveled to Korea to train with Professor Kim in advanced IBD.
Prof. Khan is an international key opinion leader (KOL) in robotic and colorectal surgery. He is actively involved in medical education and clinical training, teaching various courses and co-directing the Victory Institute of Minimal Access IBD (VIMARS). He is a national and European trainer in robotic and laparoscopic surgery.
A keen researcher, Prof. Khan holds an honorary chair in surgery at the University of Portsmouth. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers on various aspects of colorectal surgery. He serves as the principal investigator for several national and international trials and is the director of multiple courses, including the TME fellowship program.
Prof. Khan is married to a gynecologist and has two daughters, one studying to become an aeronautical engineer and the other pursuing a career in medicine. In his free time, Mr. Khan is an avid cricketer and regularly plays for a local club in Romsey. He also enjoys badminton, golf, and running.
