SCIENTIFIC RATIONALE

Endoscopy has undergone a remarkable transformation in the management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Once seen primarily as a diagnostic tool, it is now playing an increasingly central role in therapeutic decision-making: from treating strictures to removing dysplastic lesions and supporting mucosal healing strategies.

This session, “Operative Endoscopy in IBD – Pushing the Limits of Therapeutic Strategy”, aims to showcase how far we've come and where we are headed. Through a mix of concise talks and high-impact live procedures, we will explore how modern endoscopic techniques — including balloon dilation, stricturotomy, EMR, ESD, and full-thickness resection — are being used not just to observe disease but to change its course.

We will also highlight how smart imaging technologies and artificial intelligence are opening new frontiers: improving accuracy, guiding therapy in real time, and helping clinicians make more confident, data-driven decisions. This is a session for those who want to go beyond the scope, to see how therapeutic endoscopy is reshaping the care of patients with IBD, and to gain practical insights that can be brought straight into clinical practice.
