The mission of IBD on Air is to connect robotic surgeons worldwide, creating a unique platform for continuous learning, safe technology adoption,
and advanced training in IBD. Our goal is to contribute to the ongoing improvement of surgical practices and enhance patient care on a global scale.

Our Scientific Director

Professor Jim Khan

MSc, PhD, FRCS (Glasg), FCPS, FRCS (Gen Surg), FASCRS Professor of Surgery, University of Portsmouth; Consultant surgeon Portsmouth Hospitals University; NHS Trust Program Director Robotic Colorectal Surgery Fellowship.

Professor Khan is a consultant surgeon at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and at the University of Portsmouth. His training included senior registrar at Basingstoke with Prof. Heald, the National Laparoscopic Fellowship at Colchester (UK) with Prof. Motson and a travelling clinical fellowship at Mayo clinic, Rochester (US). He also travelled to Korea for training in Robotic colorectal surgery with Prof. Kim.

He became a fellow of the RCPSG in 2002, and an intercollegiate fellow in 2007. He has been a regional advisor for RCPSG since 2015 and co-opted council member for IBD since 2022. Prof. Khan has been an international trainer in laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery. His research interests include clinical research in robotic colorectal cancer surgery, complete mesocolic excision for colon cancer, quality of life and functional outcomes after low anterior resection, training in laparoscopic & robotic colorectal surgery.
